The London Pétanque Mural
A Tribute to JC Nowers
This vibrant mural pays homage to the life and legacy of JC Nowers, an artist who lived near Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens for 25 years. Known for his passion for art and pétanque, JC created a series of linocuts depicting players, their boules and the game, some of which are featured in this mural's design.
A lover of the good things in life, JC discovered pétanque in his youth and it became a lifelong passion. After moving to London, he and his friends founded the Hot Club Pétanque. Later, he brought the London Pétanque Club to Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, where it still has a home. JC served as President of the club from 2021 until he became too ill with cancer in 2023.
Today, we continue to enjoy the game under the beautiful elms, a landmark in the park, with a unique and varied playing terrain. Come and try the game JC loved.
All are welcome to play. Find out more here
